Karen Wojcik Berner, author of A Whisper to a Scream awarded me a Stylish Blogger Award, making it the first time anyone has ever called me stylish. Thanks, Karen!
For this award, I have to share seven things about myself, so here goes:
1) I went skydiving once when I was in my early 20s. I was never so terrified in my life. Once the chute opened, it was incredible. The view was fantastic and I loved the sensation of floating down to earth. As I got closer to the ground, I felt like I was dropping way too fast and became terrified all over again. (Just for the record, you hit the ground a lot harder than you'd think.)
2) Unlike a lot of women, I hate shopping. If I could order everything online, I would.
3) Speaking of things I hate--talking on the phone, what's the deal with that? Phones are great for conveying messages, or speaking with people who live out of state, but other than that, I could skip phone calls completely.
4) I didn't know asparagus was good until I was in my 30s.
5) I've lived in Wisconsin my entire life and I don't mind saying so, even though it makes me sound like a rube.
6) I sometimes wash and reuse ziplock bags.
7) I'm not a very good cook, but I do like to bake. My apple pies are legend.

What a fun post. I think I'm inspired to write a little about myself and I normally hate that.
I liked your post so here goes;
1. Never jumped out of a plane; I've always trusted the pilot to land safely.
2. I hate shopping so much I'd ask my wife to buy her own birthday presents if I thought I could get away with it and live...
3. I also hate talking to a piece of plastic in my hand.
4. Never tried asparagus; I've always been suspicious of the urine test.
5. Moved around a lot, the law keeps finding us, or my dad was in the RAF and I've been in the Royal Navy and the Army.
6. I sometimes wash.
7. I love eating apple pie that other's have baked... mmm...
That was fun stuff, thanks for sharing! I think washing ziplock bags sort of depends how you grew up. We re-used a lot of that stuff in my family (aluminum foil, too!) because buying new stuff was expensive!
I love cooking and baking but I hate dishes :P I make a mean peach pie, but don't ask me to clean up afterwards...
YA: Cheat, Liar
Adult: Shackled
wrenemerson, you should try it--it's fun and easy.
Christopher, your comment made me laugh!
J.E. Medrick,I'd rather do the dishes than cook. Peach pie, yum!
Okay, I'll cook, you do the dishes, deal? ;) (For the record, I have the same deal with my fiance!)
YA: Cheat, Liar
Adult: Shackled
Deal!
Wow, Karen! Sounds like we have a few things in common. :)
I can't stand shopping. I'm not big on phone conversations.
It took me a while to warm up to asparagus. And I can't cook worth a damn. lol
Baking chocolate chip cookies, however. That I'll do. :)
BTW, I think it's totally cool to be from Wisconsin.
You want rube, as a child, I lived in the San Joaquin Valley in California for a few years. And, at the time, I liked it better than living in New York City, where I was born. :)
Good stuff.
*Skydiving - no way
*Shopping - my wife hates it too, so I do all of the grocery shopping.
* Phone - Fugghettaboudit. Worse nowadays now that I get emails on my phone *Asparagus - probably the only green vegetable that I like
* Never been to Wisconsin - but I live in 2 places - St Augustine & Ft Lauderdale. Sometimes wake up wondering where I am.
* Ziplock bags - huh?
* I burn grilled cheese, but I usually clean up the dishes after dinner - "my contribution"
Debbi--too bad you don't live closer. I'd be right over for some cookies.
David (aka JaxPop),
Loved your take on my list! Thanks for weighing in.
I don't think saying you lived in WI your entire life makes you sound like a rube. A cheesehead maybe, but not a rube. When I left home I felt that I'd had enough excitement and set my sights on finding an honest job, a 3br ranch, a wife & 2.3 children, and a 4-door automatic sedan. That sounds rube-esque!
Oh, man, Karen. That would be awesome. Then, I'd run right over your house, too, and feast on your world class apple pie! :)
#2,3,4 & 6 are also true for me! We must be kindred spirits. (or at least connected by our publisher.)
*wink*
Thank you for your generous donation to support the children of China.
Bill B., I think your decison to have 2.3 kids was a good one. We went with 3 and there are many times that it seems like .7 too many.
Debbi, you're welcome to stop in anytime! But call first, just to make sure. Heh.
Kay, if 4 out of 7 are true, we must be kindred spirits. (And you're very welcome. Glad to help.)
That's funny. I almost took up skydiving in my twenties but the friend who was taking lessons broke her leg on her first jump and I decided not to risk it. I also hate shopping and talking in the phone. I use my iPhone for playing games, getting directions, and googling answers when my husband says things like " I wonder how much the average NFL player makes". I like asparagus, but I didn't know how to cook the fresh kind until I was almost thirty. And I once baked a vinegar pie, which I thought was okay, but my husband and son still remember it with anything but fondness.
Hi Coleslaw, thanks for sharing!
I'm not surprised your friend broke a leg skydiving. When I went, they had us practice landing by jumping off the top of a picnic table. We were supposed to curl up and roll once we hit the ground. The instructor cautioned us against keeping our legs straight. He said a lot of people have been injured that way.
When I finally did land, all I could think was that I hit the ground a lot harder than when I jumped off the picnic table...
You are a an amazingly stylish blogger.
Yes, that's what happened. She forgot to curl up and roll. I figured if she forgot, I'd forget, too.
Why thank you, Cynthia!
Were we separated at birth? lol
2, 3, 4 and 6 are all so me. I have, however, NEVER jumped out of an airplane and never intend to. Unless it's on fire. Or someone holds a gun to my head.
Shea, thanks for stopping by! I find it interesting that so many women writers don't enjoy shopping and/or chatting on the phone.
I am so glad to find someone else who hates shopping & talking on the phone!
I think we're a rare breed, Milady. I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one.
