Come see me at Boswell Book Company on Thursday, September 8th at 7 p.m.!

"The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go."

— Dr. Seuss (I Can Read with My Eyes Shut)

When my publicist from Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, the lovely Megan, set up an author event for me at Boswell Book Company in Milwaukee tomorrow night at 7 p.m., neither of us realized that the date would coincide with the first Packers game of the season, and the evening of the presidential address. Throw in a natural disaster and we'll be good to go.

But seriously, if you're in the Milwaukee, Wisconsin area and you can make it, I'd love to see you. Bring a friend.

Boswell Book Company is the kind of bookstore where you can spend many hours and a lot of moola, and every second and every dollar would bring you supreme pleasure. I've been to many events at the store and can tell you it's a first class outfit.

The lovely Judy Bridges, writer, teacher, author of Shut Up & Write, and founder of Redbird Studio will do the introductions for my event. Then there will be a short reading, followed by questions, if any (I'm prepared to ask myself questions if the audience comes up short), and then there will be a free drawing for two $25 Boswell Book Company gift cards. And a signing too, of course, because no book is complete without my signature.

And to think that Sister Carmina gave me a "D" in handwriting in second grade. Maybe I should practice.

This is the turnout that Judy got for her appearance at Boswell. I was there, of course, never dreaming that someday I'd be on the other side of the podium reading from my novels.

So come if you can, and if that's not possible, GO PACK GO!!!

Below is the press release for the event. Having a press release makes it official:

Hartland author Karen McQuestion spent nearly a decade trying to get novels published without success. In July 2009, she uploaded her manuscripts to be available as ebooks on Amazon’s Kindle. From the start, sales were good and supportive readers gave her books positive recommendations and reviews.

As a result, one of her novels, A Scattered Life, was optioned for film in November 2009 by Hiding in Bed, a L.A. production company. The same book became a Kindle bestseller, topping the list at number five.

Two of her novels, Easily Amused and A Scattered Life, were acquired by Mariner Books, a division of Houghton Mifflin Harcout, and released in trade paperback in August.

On Thursday, September 8th at 7 p.m., McQuestion will appear at Boswell Book Company, 2559 N. Downer Ave. in Milwaukee, for a reading and book signing. In addition to the presentation, a free drawing for two $25 Boswell gift cards will take place. This event is free and open to the public.

I'd sure like to be there. I wish it wasn't 2000 miles away. Plus I have to take the dog to the vet. Maybe Megan can book you for something in the bay area of northern California. Or Vegas! How about the MGM?

Ah, this is tough luck, Karen!

Look, I'm sure the president and the Packers would push their start times back for you if you asked nicely.

I'll be there, hopefully. That would make one of us.

And, to all you book buyers out there, I'm pleading with you to wait till Friday to start reading the book you just bought by Karen, or by me, for that matter. That should free up some competition.

Megan is good, but Vegas might be a reach even for her.If that changes, and I'm going to be heading your way, I'll let you know, Rex.

Jon, I think I'm past the age where I think the world should rearrange things just for me, but it was a good thought. I hope to see you there!

Wish I could make it. You will do great even though the Packers are playing.
Good luck.

It was a great presentation, Karen. You looked a pro! Nice to meet all your fans. The only thing lacking was cookies.

Christina - - I didn't find out about this event until today (Sunday, obviously too late)! How did it go?

Karen McQuestion said...

Hey, Christina, we cross posted! I just did a blog entry about how it went, which was quite well, esp. considering everything else scheduled for that night.

It's too bad you didn't see it, because it would have been great to meet you in person. Someday soon...
