If you're new to the blog, you might not know that I recently went on a road trip to follow the route my characters take in my novel-in-progress which is tentatively titled, The Road Trip (clever, huh?). Two thousand miles later, I'm back. I took a lot of notes and scads of photos (of questionable quality). I still need to get myself organized, but I'm so glad I went because I think the experience will benefit the novel. Now I just need to dive back into the manuscript and get to work.
An upcoming blog post will go into the details of the trip, for those who might be interested. I will say that my husband Greg did 95% of the driving, which was wonderful. I'm exhausted right now sitting in my recliner at home, so I have no idea how he's functioning at work. Fueled by coffee, no doubt.
While I was gone, the talented artist Vincent Desjardins, who did the illustrations for my new kids' book, Secrets of the Magic Ring, updated his site. The majority of the drawings on his Black & White page are from that book. If you get a chance, take a look. I think he's very talented.
Also while I was away, the ebook anthology, Indie Chicks: 25 Women 25 Personal Stories was released. The Indie Chicks in question are independent writers of varying backgrounds and ages. At the moment, this book costs only 99 cents and proceeds go to the Susan G. Komen Foundation. I was honored when the organizer, author Cheryl Shireman, contacted me to ask if I'd write the foreward. She suggested that a blog post I'd already written would nearly fit the bill, and with a few changes it was good to go. Cheryl wrote about how this project came to be on her blog. I'm so happy to be included in this book and can't wait to read it. Thanks, Cheryl!
Writer friend and carpool-to-Madison-when-going-to-WSF associate, Dave Thome posted an interview with me on his site, ManWAR. He calls it an "exclusive interview." I say, sure, why not.
And last, but surely not least, Book Trends gave Celia and the Fairies a five-star review. Don't tell the other books, but I have a soft spot in my heart for Celia and this review makes me very happy.
Until later,
Karen

Welcome home! The road trip book is something a lot of us fantasize about, but few of us actually get to do.
And thanks so much for helping the Indie Chicks with the great forward!
Plus many congrats to Celia! As somebody who has been following your blog a long time, I feel close to Celia, too. It was one of the first self-pubbed books I'd heard of that did well.
Thanks for welcoming me back, Anne! It was my pleasure to be part of the Indie Chicks. BTW, I love the title of your piece! Can't wait to read it.
Congratulations to your husband. My wife, I'm sure, wouldn't take the trek with me, if it was "research." But then, would I watch "Project Runway" with her? Nah.

Yep, Greg was a trooper. But then again, he likes road trips. If I asked him to watch Project Runway with me, it would be a different story.
Christina - xristya@rock.com - Just went to your blog (hadn't in awhile), and wow, you did a huge road trip and took notes for a book? What a great idea! Was it like a vacation - or not? -- Also, you had written to me about waiting for reviews for Secrets Of The Magic Ring - but honestly, Karen, who could NOT like that book? Anyone who doesn't like it is at the very least a demon!
Christina, you are wonderful! And your demon comment made me laugh. So far the reviews of Secrets of the Magic Ring have been good, except for one person who said it was corny, and I can live with that.
