I quickly took a screen shot so that when I wake up tomorrow I'll know it really happened. Celia and the Fairies, my middle grade fiction, published in English, is currently ranked third on the Amazon Kindle bestseller list in Germany.
Why did this happen? I honestly don't know. I've heard that Germany is a big market for translated American books, and I also know that many Europeans speak fluent English (putting Americans to shame in the foreign language department), but I have no idea why my story about a little girl who sees fairies in the woods behind her home is doing so well right now.
But I'll take it.
And now I'm off to bed. Guten Nacht!

That's awesome! Congratulations. How do you say congratulations in German? According to Babelfish: Glückwünsche!
Excellent news -- and the book deserves it!
Thanks Sophia! I took German in high school and have forgotten most of it (sorry, Frau Friedrich!) but I think Glückwünsche literally means "lucky wishes," which is a delightful way to say congratulations.
Hey Mark--thanks for your kind words. I actually solved the mystery of how this happened just this morning when the book came up during a Google search as the German Kindle Deal of the Day. So it's not entirely deserved, but it's wonderful nonetheless.
Congratulations international bestselling author Karen McQuestion! :)
Thanks, Karen! We'll have to notify Merriam-Webster that the definition of "international" has been changed to mean "in Germany." Fine by me!
Spanning the globe, one country at a time. That's cool, Karen.

Congratulations, Karen!
Kindle Deal of the Day or however it was marketed, you have many new -- and I predict 'return' -- readers! Yay!
That's wonderful, Karen! All the more so since it came about so unexpectedly. Amazon Germany chose their Deal of the Day wisely. :)
Bill, I wouldn't say no to return readers (or any readers, for that matter). I love your optimism!
Shayne, your nice comment reminds me of a quote from the movie FINDING FORRESTER where Sean Connery tells the young guy, "The key to a woman's heart is an unexpected gift at an unexpected time." So very true. Who doesn't love a surprise?
Chrsitina - xristya@rock.com - Hi Karen, Wie gehts? (I studied German in high school but didn't retain much because I was never immersed in it!) I am SO, SO happy for you! When I was writing poetry and short stories (especially poetry doesn't go out to the general public much), I always hoped it would be read by those who liked it and understood it (making collages for the art scene is a different kind of bear altogether), as I loved and understood the authors whom I liked - and see, just by getting your work out there, this is happening to you! True congratulations!
Christina, es geht mir gut, danke! Thanks so much for your congratulations. I know you mean it and I appreciate it!
Kudos. How awesome is that? :)
Very awesome, Brenda!
